For every moment that is genuinely hilarious and great, there is another that drags on or doesn't quite land. To be fair I'm not a fan of Will Ferrell but I thought with a good leading lady, good writing and a wonderful story..how can you go wrong?? June 26, 2020 First, and most importantly, know this is not a comedy, it's a serious, purposefully slow-moving character study with a few very funny, even laugh-out-loud moments. 24 out of 38 found this helpful. Unfortunately, in trying to make light work of Pete's heavy-duty show of cowardice, the movie makes a storytelling stumble from which it never recovers.
Ferrell (Holmes & Watson) and Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) are such an enjoyable comedy pairing and work together for Downhill's broader aims.
We won’t be able to verify your ticket today, but it’s great to know for the future.Regal A flop for a Valentine's date! It shines a light on ordinary human weaknesses, and how pathetic many of us really are. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is so irritating that I don't know if I can watch an episode of Seinfeld again. There was no sign of change or grown throughout the movie. Every minute is excruciatingly awkward and uncomfortable. Pride The story still works, with the bigger revelations and solutions packing a punch, though it's a shame that it's not original. MOVIES 'Downhill': Film Review | Sundance 2020. This is not only one of those cases in which a U.S. makeover adds nothing to a memorable foreign-language film, it's the doubly dispiriting variation in which the more commercially minded overhaul relentlessly drains everything that was distinctive, edgy and original about the source. The basic plot outline remains the same, albeit with a shift from the French Alps to a ski resort in Austria.
Was this review helpful? Movie Review. It's such a pathetic moment of emotional manipulation that incredulous laughter is the only natural response, and the movie makes the viewer stay in that uncomfortable squirm. With Force Majeure, the children are kept on the sidelines and they're more worried that mom and dad may be doomed to a divorce rather than being upset or disappointed with their father. This thread also goes nowhere beyond some crudely executed physical comedy for Louis-Dreyfus (warning: do not try masturbating while standing up in snow boots) that just trivializes what the character is going through. At least Billie's efforts to work through the experience and figure out where it leaves her marriage provide a substantial arc for Louis-Dreyfus, and few come close to her skill at conveying twitchy annoyance. View All Videos (1) Barely escaping an avalanche during a family ski vacation in the Alps, a married couple is thrown into disarray as they are forced to reevaluate their lives and how they feel about each other.
I thought it was a comedy. 'Downhill' is a perfect word to describe the steep slide into disappointment that your expectations will take when you think about how this movie wastes the talents of Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell. Wasted talent.so disappointing.
