The session for Black's recording of "Alfie" took place in the autumn of 1965, in Studio One at "Alfie" was released in January 1966, four months prior to the opening of the film. She really is Liverpool's Cinderella.

Not bad, but hoping for more details about her real life
Loved the formative years in Liverpool and the Cavern Club where she found herself in the right place at the right time with the talent to stand out. Of course since then many years have past, but the most interesting part of her life is covered.
So by this time, coward that I was, I really couldn't back out." I read it quickly and found it entertaining, particularly the early chapters about the Liverpool music scene in the 50s and 60s. You get the impression all the fame and fortune that followed did not destroy her bond to the ordinary people. It was heart warming, and inspiring. If you don't like Cilla or were not around in the sixties it may still give you an insight into what things were like in the Liverpool of the fifties and sixties.
Given her recent death it is a must for Cilla fans, or those who are interested in how she became such a much loved personaity en Britain. Alfie spends time in a convalescent home, where he befriends a fellow patient named Harry ( Alfie Bass ), a family man devoted to his frumpy wife Lily ( Vivien Merchant ). Billboard Hot 100. Very full of her own self importance , would,nt like to get on the wrong side of her , bobby must of been a saint , and every famous person she mentions along the way seem to be her best and closest friends till she mentions the next person and then it's them ,for instance Paul and Linda McCartney were supposedly her closest friends then when Linda dies she did,nt know what to say to Paul as she was upset so she did,nt even write to him ,phone him or send a card and did,nt go to the funeral what's that about some best friend she is ( more like ships that pass in the night probably moved in the same pop circles) it was,nt about her being upset it's about supporting you friend , anyway loved the book specially the early days but as it goes on she gets a bit to big for her boots and full of her once self importance so I have gone off her but brill read
Although Bacharach and David suggested "Alfie" be recorded by Dionne Warwick, their most prolific interpreter, Paramount felt the film's setting demanded the song be recorded by a UK singer. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote.
