The food is indeed good but not spectacular. That was a long time ago when we had our own plane. Nick's is not a trendy urban spot, but a place that celebrates good food and wine in a refined atmosphere that anyone can feel at ease. Our elegant, fresh rockfish was prepared in parchment paper with leeks and potatoes and was superb. – In Short Tucked into quaint downtown McMinnville, Nick's mixes rustic neighborhood charm with gourmet panache. I've been trying for 1 week to make reservations for a special weekend I'm planning for me and GF while visiting the area, and although dont know if...Seriously deceiving from the sidewalk... the pasta was amazing, server was very knowledgeable, even met Nick himself in the back bar after dinner! This restaurant was highly recommended to us and we were excited to try it out. I don't mind that if you have more entrees than just pasta and pizza. The pasta dishes are the bestn I have ever eaten. Casual surroundings are nice, with great jazz playing overhead. All rights reserved. The appetizers of "frito" vegetabels were a delightful surprise, and my girlfriends plate of homemade meats were truly fun.
Generally speaking I am often times disappointed with what is considered to be great food in the Portland area, just a bit spoiled from living in San Francisco for the past 10 years and working in the wine industry. Anyone coming to Nick’s has got to be impressed by not only his old world charm in greeting every guest at the front door welcoming them in, but by the wonderful dishes coming out of the kitchen. It holds the essense of metropolitan that I thought I would go out in the world and find but it turns out that the heart of it was just out my backdoor. I'll certainly try Nick's again. – Nick's has to be one of the best kept secrets in the Willamette Valley, and we were quite happy to discover it.
It took awhile to eat because they had a large party going on in front that took about a 1/3 of the restaurant. I should also note that the wine list is awesome. If you want some truly authentic fantastic Italian cooking this is the place to go. And if the quality of food is just as good, we wouldn't mind driving there for a weekend. Citysearch is a registered trademark of CityGrid Media. I've never spent $100 on a meal that was so bland to make me angry. With a thoughtful Selection of Wines in Oregon we strive for an exquisite tasting. Now that was worth the money and the trip!!
The cook looked to be about 19 years-old. The service was disappointing, ordering and getting the bill took over 30 minutes, way too long. In addition, don't pass on the pasta, its three layers of house made noodles, married with dungeness crab, mushrooms and bechamel is the perfect way to prepare for your entree. Loved the food! Nothing special. All I can say is wow, the food was truly something special. I now take my four-year-old (quiet & reserved) daughter in with us.
Poor Food – We came to Nick's expecting to experience some exceptional food. The meat tasted boiled and flavorless.
The final savory courses from the five course tasting menu were superb, a perfectly cooked local wild salmon with fresh porcinis and the lamb loin wrapped in caul fat being some of our favorites. Authentic! And they also recently spent 6 months cooking in Italy, to prepare them for taking over Nick's.
My wife had a sausage lasagna that contained no pasta at all.
Well, my friend was starving and didn't even want anything else. The pinot list is wonderful (my latest love is Panther Creek), but there were good by-the-glass selections as well. Guessing their pizzas must be great, cuz we didn't have any and only had pasta. Good Italian Food /Nothing outstanding – This establishment has alway"s had a good food, but nothing oustanding. It's also very pricy for what you get. I have been here a couple of times and the food is absolutely amazing as well as the serviceWonderful food and service.
Spoiled our day to end it this way.
Did I mention the wine? You get full-service catering with local, fresh, in-house fare complete with table service and the freshest products, whether on-site or off-site.
So much for the hype – As a native McMinnville resident, I have lived for years with the hype of Nick's Cafe.
Gulzar Hallman. I love food, and a great experience to go with it. Barbarry's - 4010 Beaver Rd., Reading, Pennsylvania 19608 - Rated 5 based on 46 Reviews "This is a wonderful "escape" place. But, when you order a basic pasta dish, and that's all it is, is basic with a simple sauce on it, you feel like its lacking something. Geez, if they can't take better care to watch for that kind of stuff, they don't deserve to have the ratings they're getting. Instead what we received was very bland and uninspiring. But Nick?s lives up to the hype.
